To make cordage you use the inner bark of willow or lime tree. For extra strength you can put the inner bark into a tin with water and charcoal put it on the fire for a while and dry it out then you can use it to make cordage.
Look at how ray mears does it with netle fibres, a much faster way of using the technique shown in this video! Typ in “Ray mears bushcraft 3 of 3″ and watch how to do it.
You know you are into bushcraft when you walk through the woods or your backyard and see fibrous plants and take a few strands and twist them together to see if they make good cordage.
Hi!
I used the inner bark fibres from the Lime tree but you can choose any material you like. If you practice the technique it deosnt take long begore you get fast enout to make meters of cordage in one go.
very good , & clear

what’s the plant material?
it looks like willow wood or spruce root?
the problem with his technique though is u cant make the cordage as tight as possible making the cordage slightly weaker…
Excellent! Thanks for sharing. What material was it that you were starting with? Cheers!
very useful thanks
Wow thats a slow method. I can made cord at least double that speed.
Very clear presentation, Great Video Thanks.

Top video..What material is that anyhow?

Very good video. I like that you let the technique speak for itself. My technique is a little different.
Thats very interesting, its the same technique that I use to make flemish strings for my bow. I never would have thought of applying it to make cord.
I’m making a yucca fiber string at this very moment using that technique!
wow!! the making of good cordage is probably the most difficult survival skill!
Thanks for providing such a useful video. I now know how to make cordage and just made about 6ft from pounded honeysuckle vine.
Its quite easy to add more fibres, just add a new fibre to the side that is becomming thinner and carry on twisting.
I wouldnt have thought that the Lime bark fibres would be strong enough for use with a bow drill but you could always try!
How do you splice more fibers? Is lime tree fiber strong enough to use on a bow drill to make fire?
I just managed to make a fire using palm tree leaves as cordage on a bow drill.

cool! how long does it take to make 1 foot? what fibres are you useing?
